Add bed frame rail hardware.

Next i placed the rail hardware at the mark and close to flush with the end of the board. Layout the frame cross member so that you have one on each end of the frame sides. It can be flush or about 1 16 of an inch in to help give a more snug fit. Once they are in place screw them together.

The middle cross members get placed at 13 and 27 inches on the frame. This is because these h shaped frame styles are intended for use with a headboard and footboard. The rails attach to these pieces directly to support the mattress. So the top is completely flush meaning it would sit on and not in.

This ended up being a heavy but very sturdy bed frame. The bed rails each have a 2x2 1 5 x1 5 attached to the bottom inside edge on which the slats supporting the mattress rest. This grid of screws creates a lot of conflicting geometry that will prevent racking of the entire bed. Repeat these steps to make the other half of the bed frame.

I used three 2x8 s one 2x6 one 2x10 and two 2x2 s. I have been creating furniture plans for more than 8 years so i have used all my experience to make this super simple design. I lowered the inside frame so that the mattress sits 1 inch below the top of the 2x6. An old metal bed frame donated its casters to make it easily movable.

Each inside corner of the bed frame receives 8 screws to mount the frames to the legs. Bed rails are similar to frames but they re missing the metal slats at the head and foot of the bed. Most of that wood was 2x6 boards.
